Erickson named Associate of the Year

Brian Erickson of Federated Insurance has been named the PHCC of Delaware Associate of the year.

“Brian has been an active member of PHCC Delaware,” said PHCC Executivd Director Ed Capodanno, “and he is a staunch supporter of PHCC. He serves on the board of directors and provides many volunteer hours throughout the year. He is a member of the Golf Outing Committee and his company has been a major sponsor of numberous events including the very successful Ladies Night in February, the May golf outing and our convention. These contributions have been invaluable to our organization’s success.”

The Associate of the Year award is presented to the member who has made a significant contribution to the association through committee involvement and sponsorships of the events. Nominations are accepted and a board vote determines the recipient each year.

“This award was started to recognize the importance of our associate members,” said Capodanno. “Associate members are truly, and important part of the membership and we want all members to know what their involvement means for the success of PHCC Delaware. Thanks to all the associate members who regularly come to our events and continually support PHCC of Delaware. The stronger the number of members the stronger our association will continue to be.”

New Castle County moving to online permitting

New Castle County representatives Brian Donovan (above left) and Dave Holsten (above right) were the guest speakers for the PHCC Delaware June Dinner Meeting to discuss the county’s new online services and permitting process.

Here are highlights of the presentation and Q & A period: Current online system:
• Ability to apply and have an issued permit for residential replacement work that does not require a plan review with the exception of work that requires a gas test.
• Ability to apply for a permit 7 days a week from 6:00 am to 12:00 Midnight. We do system maintenance from around 12:00 Midnight to approximately 5:00 am.
• Ability to print your permit and building placard.
• Ability to schedule an inspection for Monday through Friday 7 days a week. So on a Saturday, you could schedule an inspection for Monday if that day is still available. You will receive a message to select another date if the day you are scheduling an inspection is filled. The system will also send you a message if you try to schedule an inspection on a weekend or holiday. There has also been some discussion about having the hours to call the inspection office to schedule an inspection reduced.

“We have found, “ said Donovan, “ that some cell phones that have internet capabilities can access our online system. This gives you the ability to schedule an inspection online even from the site using your cell phone.”

Future changes:
• Ability to apply and issue permits for residential plumbing, HVAC and decorative appliance permits online (excluding gas pipe).
• Ability to apply for Plumbing and HVAC permits that may require a plan review to initiate the permit process online.

“This mean you would get a application number and have a message appear that says that you are required to report to the department of Land Use with a copy of the application and your plans,” said Holsten. “We would then process the application to permit issuance in the office.”

More than 160 PHCC members and their guests turned out on March 10 for the Annual PHCC Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction at St. Thomas Hall in Wilmington.

“It was a great event,” said Augie Calfo, chief cook for the event. “This is one of the largest crowds we’ve ever had and it was a great evening.”

Special thanks to the members of PHCC and the PHCC Auxiliary for seeking donations for the silent auction and to members who worked setting up and cleaning up the event.

“This event is all about members working together,” said PHCC Delaware President Ed Harvey. “Thanks to everyone who helped by collecting items for the auction and working at the dinner. It was a great success.”
